The debut issue of the our zine, The Female Gaze, subverts “the male gaze.” Derived from 2nd-wave feminist film theorist, Laura Mulvey, the male gaze objectifies. It originated as a reference to the gender power dynamic of film where men were behind the camera, constructing an objectified passive narrative of femininity.
